Occupation |
When the Ditzlers came to TSR, Pat involved herself in a lot of activities. She actively raised funds for Gualala Arts and for R.C.M.S., primarily by holding dinners. She co-chaired two Gualala Arts' Art in the Redwoods festivals, when they were held in the Gualala Community Center. She served as a volunteer docent at Fort Ross before it was remodeled and expanded. Pat also was active in events at the Sea Ranch Activities Center, located on Verdant View. Pat thought that if the Activities Center had a piano, musical events could be held which would encouratge and facilitate holding musical activities and cultural events for the enjoyment of the Sea Ranch community. To this end, she, Jo Iseman and Edith Holmes underwrote the purchase of a used grand piano, which was put in the Activities Center. The three women then arranged various musical activities, such as having talented pianist Bette Covington perform at the first concert nd also utilizing the talents of composer Dale Wood and voice teacher Gloria Wood. Pat started the Sea Ranch Library in the Activities Center. She also thought that yoga classes would be beneficial for the Sea Ranch community, and set about finding a trained yoga instructor. Pat also initiated the Christmas carol sing, which also was held at the Activities Center. She initiated the "Tuesday night picnics" at the Hot Spot during the summer months. Lyle began working for the Volunteer Fire Department soon after they moved here, and both he and Pat were strong supporters and fund raisers for the Department. Pat thought that the Volunteer Fire Department was the longest continuously-running Sea Ranch group. She thought the Monday Quilting Group was the second longest, and she still maintains active membership in this group. Pat also worked with the Post Squash Garden group. |
